Family-Friendly Fishing Fun in Cape Canaveral

Get ready for a laid-back day on the water that's perfect for the whole family. Our Cape Canaveral fishing charter is all about having a good time and introducing kids and first-timers to the joys of inshore fishing. We'll cruise the calm waters near the coast, giving everyone a chance to reel in some of Florida's most popular fish species. No experience? No problem. We've got all the gear and know-how to get you catching fish in no time.

Trip Overview

This 4-hour trip is tailor-made for families looking to dip their toes into the world of fishing. We'll head out to some of Cape Canaveral's best inshore spots, where the water's calm and the fish are biting. The boat's big enough for 4 anglers, but we can squeeze in up to 6 if you've got a larger crew (just give us a heads up). Choose between a morning or afternoon trip - whatever fits your schedule best. We provide everything you need: rods, reels, bait, and even fishing licenses. All you need to bring is some snacks, sunscreen, and a desire to have fun!

What to Expect on the Water

Inshore fishing is all about working the shallow waters close to shore. We'll be targeting spots where fish like to hang out - around docks, grass flats, and mangrove shorelines. The techniques we use are easy to pick up, even for total beginners. We might do some light casting, or try bottom fishing with live bait. The captain will show you how to hold the rod, set the hook, and reel in your catch. And don't worry about tangles or lost lures - we're here to help with all that stuff so you can focus on the fun part: catching fish!

Why Anglers Keep Coming Back

Folks love our family charters because they're relaxed, fun, and almost always end with some fish in the cooler. Kids get a kick out of feeling that first tug on the line, and parents love seeing their little ones light up when they reel in their catch. Even if you don't land the big one, you're guaranteed to come away with some great family photos and memories. Plus, our calm inshore waters mean nobody has to worry about seasickness - it's smooth sailing all the way.

Species You'll Want to Hook

Redfish are one of our top targets on these family trips. These copper-colored beauties are known for putting up a good fight, even in shallow water. They hang out near oyster bars and grass flats, and love to chase down a well-placed lure or chunk of bait. Redfish are active year-round in our waters, but fall is prime time when they school up in big numbers. Kids love catching these guys because they're not too picky and give a good tug on the line.

Sheepshead are another fun catch for families. These striped fish with human-like teeth are masters at stealing bait, which makes hooking one a real accomplishment. They hang around structure like docks and bridge pilings, using their teeth to scrape barnacles and crabs off the pilings. Winter is the best time to target sheepshead, when they gather in large schools to spawn. Catching these crafty fish is a great way for kids to learn patience and improve their technique.

Flounder might not look like much, but they're a blast to catch and even better to eat. These flat fish bury themselves in the sandy bottom, waiting to ambush passing prey. We often find them around inlet mouths and along channel edges. The trick is to drag your bait slowly along the bottom - when a flounder hits, it feels like you've snagged the bottom. Fall is prime flounder season when they move into shallower waters. Kids get a kick out of seeing these weird-looking fish with both eyes on one side of their head!

Snook are the prize catch of our inshore waters. These sleek, powerful fish are known for their acrobatic jumps and hard-fighting nature. We find them lurking around mangrove shorelines, under docks, and near inlet mouths. Snook fishing is best in the warmer months, from late spring through early fall. While they can be a bit trickier to catch, even a small snook will give junior anglers a thrill they won't forget. Just remember, snook are catch-and-release most of the year to protect the population.

Learn more about the species

Black Drum

Black Drum are the heavyweights of the drum family, reaching up to 90 pounds. You'll find them in shallow, brackish waters around oyster beds and mudflats. They're known for their powerful jaws that can crush shellfish - and your bait. Most anglers target them in spring when they school up to spawn. Listen for their distinctive croaking sounds! For the best eating, aim for smaller drums under 15 pounds. The big ones can be tough and less tasty. Live bait like crabs or clams work great, but a slow-moving jig can do the trick too. When you hook one, be ready for a fight. These guys pull hard and don't give up easy. My local tip? Fish the incoming tide around structure. The drum will be there, looking for an easy meal. Just remember to use the right weight to keep your bait on the bottom where they feed.

Black Drum

Redfish

Redfish, or red drum, are one of our most popular inshore species. They're easy to spot with that black dot near their tail - sometimes they have more than one. Most reds we catch inshore run 20-30 inches, but they can grow much bigger offshore. You'll find them in super shallow water, often tailing in just a foot or two. Look for them around oyster bars, grass flats, and mangroves. They'll eat just about anything, which makes them fun to catch on a variety of lures or bait. Redfish put up a great fight and are delicious on the table. Anglers love sight-fishing for them in clear shallows - it's a real thrill to see a big red crush your lure. For the best action, fish early morning or evening when they're actively feeding. Here's a local tip: on windy days, focus on shorelines with the wind blowing into them. Reds often cruise these areas looking for bait that's been pushed up against the bank.

Redfish

Sheepshead

Sheepshead are the oddballs of our inshore waters. With their black and white stripes, they look like little convicts swimming around. Most run 1-8 pounds, but you might luck into a 20-pounder if you're fishing the right spot. Look for them around any structure with barnacles - docks, bridges, and pilings are prime real estate. These fish are notorious bait stealers, thanks to their human-like teeth. They'll nibble your bait right off the hook if you're not careful. Spring is usually the best time to target them, but you can find sheepshead year-round in our waters. Anglers love the challenge of catching these crafty fish, and they're excellent eating too. For bait, you can't beat fiddler crabs or pieces of shrimp. Here's a tip: use a small, sharp hook and set it fast when you feel the bite. Sheepshead are pros at stealing bait, so you've got to be quicker than they are.

Sheepshead

Summer Flounder

Summer Flounder, or "fluke," are masters of camouflage. These flatfish blend right into the sandy bottom, with both eyes on their left side. They usually run 15-20 inches, but the big ones can hit 26 pounds. You'll find them in inshore waters and estuaries, often near structure. September to November is prime time for flounder fishing here. They're ambush predators, so look for them around drop-offs or near channels where they can surprise their prey. Flounder put up a good fight and are excellent table fare, making them a favorite target. When it comes to bait, these guys love live fish like minnows or mullet. Here's a local trick: use a fish-finder rig with a circle hook. Let your bait bump along the bottom, and when you feel weight, give it a second before setting the hook. Flounder often grab the tail first, then turn the bait to swallow it. That pause can make all the difference in landing one of these tasty flatfish.
